Albert Ràfols-Casamada

He began studying architecture but abandoned them to devote himself to the plastic arts thanks to the support of his father, Albert Ràfols i Cullerés. In 1950 he obtained a scholarship to travel to France, where he settled in Paris until 1954 with his wife, also painter Maria Girona i Benet. In 1980 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas granted by the Ministry of Culture of Spain and in 2003 with the Premi Nacional d’Arts Visuals National Visual of Catalonia by the Generalitat of Catalonia. Also in 1983 he was distinguished with the Creu de Sant Jordi and in 1991 with the Legion of Honour of the Government of France. He is an honorary academic of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
Galería Carles Taché has included his painting Marge rosa (1992) in the exhibition Tribute to catalan contamporary art.
